Mazda B2600i G6 Engine

The Mazda G6
The G6 engine of the Mazda B2600i is one of the most durable engines ever built. However, as durable as it is, it does have one weak link; the engine control module (ECM/ECU.) In the late eighties and early nineties, Mitsubishi manufactured ECMs for several different car manufactures, including Mazda, Dodge, and Honda. For several years, some of their ECMs were manufactured with inferior quality capacitors that would fail from heat build-up - resulting in electrolyte leakage on to other parts of the circuit board.  Cars that were owned and operated in warmer southern climates were the first to fail; generally after four or five years and 50k to 75k miles.

Common Symptoms of Bad Engine Control Modules
There are various symptoms of a failed or failing ECM depending on what circuit is damaged. Sometimes, more than one circuit can be damaged causing multiple symptoms. Here are some of the most common symptoms:

    Mazda B2600i ECM
  • Engine turns over but will not start after being shut down
(may or may not restart after cooling down)
  • Engine/Ignition dies while driving.
  • Engine runs rough or misfires / running on less than all four cylinders
  • Engine runs smooth when cold, then idles rough or stalls when warmed up.
  • Engine struggles during acceleration
  • Engine runs generally smooth but with an occasional miss
  • Check engine light (CEL/MIL) may or may not be illuminated with a faulty computer

Just because you might have one of these symptoms doesn't mean your computer has failed. After all, there are 7 primary sensor input/outputs to the fuel injection system. If one or more of those sensors is bad or erroneous, it will affect the performance of your computer and engine. As the old saying goes..."Garbage in, Garbage out!"

Although all of these other sensors outnumber the computer 7:1, the computer is still the most likely culprit of a rough running or dead engine. However, before you shell out hard earned money for a remanufactured ECM, we want to help you rule out all of the other components of your fuel injection system. We have set up a flow chart and diagnostic tests to help you determine if your other components are functioning within the manufacturer's specifications. Please visit your "Troubleshooting" sections to make sure your other components are not at fault.

Unfortunately, these questions usually can't be answered.  Sellers typically just don't know the history or true health of the ECM.  They just know that it was running. However, just because the truck was running, that doesn't mean that the ECM is not in the process of failing.  After all, your truck was "running," right up until it wasn't.  When you purchase an ECM from B2600i.com, you can feel confident that you are getting a quality, professionally remanufactured, ECM.

G618 or G630
The G630 ECM came into service on the 1992 model trucks.  If is essentially the same as the G618 but has some minor software changes including slightly different timing schedules.  Both computers are interchangeable.  If your truck has a G618 ECM and you experience knocking or pinging with lower octane fuel, you may experience improved performance by switching to the G630.  This is assuming that everything else is tuned correctly with your engine - especially the timing.

Professionally Remanufactured & Truck Tested
Our ECMs are Mazda Original Equipment Computers.  They are professionally remanufactured by a veteran electronics technician.  After being remanufactured, they are given a 7 day test drive to ensure proper operation and reliability under all driving conditions.  On most computers, we powder coated the cases in our "Platinum-Cast" silver to ensure longevity.
